LOS ANGELES : Council Declares Sunday ‘Day Without Violence’
The Los Angeles City Council has declared Sunday a “Day Without Violence” to mark an annual peace march against street crime.
Standing on the steps of City Hall with representatives from various community organizations, Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg announced the declaration as a part of “a movement that simply says we will not accept the violence and mayhem that has plagued the cities in our country.”
“We are going to continue to struggle to make a difference,” Goldberg said.
The march will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Olvera Street Plaza, across from Union Station. It is sponsored by the Drive-By Agony, Women Against Gun Violence and the Violence Prevention Coalition.
