SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Parker Is Perfect for La Canada

Senior pitcher Lindsay Parker led visiting La Canada to a 7-0 Rio Hondo League victory over San Marino by throwing her seventh perfect game .

Parker (11-1), who will play for Fresno State next season, recorded 15 strikeouts for the Spartans. She has one other no-hitter this season and 24 in her career.

The Spartans (11-1, 4-0) were led offensively by Shannon Smith, Lauren Burns and Parker. Smith had two hits and a run batted in. Burns had three hits and two RBIs and Parker had a triple and a single with two RBIs.

Crescenta Valley 1, Arcadia 0--Danielle Robertshaw lost a no-hitter in the seventh inning but held on to get the shutout for the Falcons (15-2, 3-0) in a Pacific League game.

Elizabeth Barnes scored the only run when Arcadia catcher Kara Wallace overthrew third base on a stolen-base attempt in the second inning.

Montclair Prep 10, Whitney 2-- Brandi Cohen (7-0) allowed her first run of the season after 36 innings, but made up for it by leading the Mounties past the Wildcats with four hits and two RBIs in a nonleague game at Whitney.

Cohen pitched six innings, striking out six and allowing three hits.

Stephanie Aron added two triples and Tamara Freedman had a double and a single for the unbeaten Mounties (10-0).

Cornerstone Christian 9, Cate 0--Karen Breshears pitched a perfect game for the visiting Eagles (11-0, 4-0), striking out six in the Condor League game and adding a three-run home run in the second inning.

Julie Siefert made a leaping catch in the fourth inning to preserve the gem for Breshears.

Campbell Hall 10, Buckley 7--The Vikings (8-4) were missing three starters but won the nonleague game after scoring seven runs in the first two innings. Jessica Koral doubled in a run, Molly Jacobs had two hits and drove in three and Arika Hassan drove in four.

Kennedy 4, Cleveland 0--Sandra Durazo struck out 18 and gave up one hit and one walk in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Durazo (13-3) has started every game this season for Kennedy (13-3, 5-2) and has 154 strikeouts in 105 innings.

Verdugo Hills 10, Eagle Rock 3--Melanie Wood and her sister Kim teamed to allow three runs and three hits for the Dons (9-3, 6-0) in a Northern League game.

Melanie Wood (8-2) started and struck out six batters in five innings. Kim Wood earned her second save.

Chatsworth 7, Taft 1--Parisa Plant held Taft to four hits as the host Chancellors won a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Sharleen Rubin had two hits and two RBIs for Chatsworth (8-2, 6-2).

El Camino Real 11, Birmingham 1--Jennifer Redlin had two two-run singles and an RBI triple to help the Conquistadores (15-1, 7-0 in the Northwest Valley Conference) win their 15th consecutive game. LoToyla Williams added a two-run single in the third and Tami Jones (11-1) allowed four hits while striking out 11 and walking one.

COLLEGE

Antelope Valley 10, San Bernardino Valley 4--The Marauders moved to within a game of clinching the Foothill Conference championship. Antelope Valley (26-12, 7-1 in conference play) got two doubles, a triple and four RBIs from Margaret Perez. She had a two-run double in the top of the fifth that gave the Marauders a 6-0 lead.

Perez’s two-run triple in the sixth gave the Marauders a 9-4 edge after San Bernardino (13-17, 3-4) rallied in the previous inning. Starting pitcher Jody Snelling (17-7) had a no-hitter through five innings, then got shutout relief from Mary Flores.

Moorpark 2, Santa Monica 1--Brandy Heyl’s third-inning single scored Holly Bennett with the eventual winning run for host Moorpark (17-10, 10-1) in a Western State Conference game.

Bennett singled and stole two bases to set up the run. Andy Dominguez scored the other run in the second inning on a single and a three-base fielding error.

Pierce 2, Canyons 1--Brede Nivens’ RBI single in the fifth inning enabled the Brahmas to beat the Cougars in a WSC game at Pierce.

Nivens also tripled and scored the first run for the Brahmas (17-14, 5-7) in the fourth on Bobbie Dushane’s hit.

The Cougars (15-14, 7-5) scored a run in the sixth when Jennifer Sprague tripled home Trisha Beer.
