ARLETA : Alarcon to Speak at Town Hall Meeting
Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon will discuss the proposed $171-million bond measure that would include creation of a new police station in the San Fernando Valley at a town hall meeting tonight in Arleta.
Capt. Ronald Bergmann, commander of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division, also will speak at the meeting, set for 6:30 p.m. at Beachy Elementary School, 9757 Beachy Ave. Fire Department officials also will be present to discuss community concerns.
The meeting is sponsored by the Arleta Chamber of Commerce.
“The purpose is to let community members meet with their elected officials, to exchange feelings on things that are good and things that need to be improved,” said Hawley Smith, director of the Arleta Chamber of Commerce. “In particular, we want to have some discussion of how our emergency services system is working.”
In addition, Smith plans to ask officials when the city will set permanent, marked boundaries for the nearly 30 communities within the San Fernando Valley.
“All the work has been done, the boundaries are just not established,” Smith said. “They started five years ago, the maps were drawn, and it’s time to finish this and put the issue away.”
