Orange County Almanac
The city of Fullerton was named after a colorful Orange County pioneer.
George H. Fullerton, a former postmaster in Massachusetts, came to Orange County in the late 19th Century as the tour guide for a trainload of Easterners.
During the trip to California, the train Fullerton was on ran into an Apache uprising. Soldiers on the train got off in Arizona to fight the Apaches, unnerving the Eastern passengers.
One tourist on the train was so nervous that he made the rest of the train trip on the floor with a pistol in his lap.
At the turn of the century, Fullerton was known for its Valencia orange groves.
