A 16-month-old girl bitten by a snake while crawling on the porch of her parents’ rural home west of Lancaster was held overnight at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, then released Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The girl was bitten about 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the home in the 18600 block of West Avenue B-8, said Jeff Ziegler, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A three-foot green snake slithered onto the porch and bit her three times in the foot, Ziegler said. The species is not poisonous.

Paramedics whisked the girl by helicopter to the Lancaster hospital, Ziegler said. She was reported in good condition Sunday morning, then discharged in the afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
