Donald Morgan; Opera Singer, Professor

Donald Morgan, 84, who combined the unusual career of opera singer with his work as a college professor and public relations adviser. The last survivor of the Pomona family of Morgan Morgan Morgan, Donald graduated from Stanford and earned his doctorate in German literature and language at the University of Cologne, Germany. He worked as a censor in Florida, Puerto Rico and Germany during World War II and in Germany after the war. He taught at the University of Minnesota before the war, and in the 1950s moved to New York to work in public relations. Wherever he was, Morgan continued his study of music and public concerts. Among his performances were those in the St. Paul (Minn.) Opera Company’s production of “The Bartered Bride” and Bach’s “Mass in B Minor” under Serge Koussevitsky. Morgan was bass soloist in Mozart’s “Cosi Fan Tutte” at the Berkshire Music Center, and was a member of the first opera class at Tanglewood. In 1950, he was chosen by Gian-Carlo Menotti as one of six leading characters in the film version of “The Medium,” which was shot in Rome. Morgan married another star of the film, alto Belva Kibler. On April 22 in Los Angeles.
