Kristin Dunn and Kel Watrin gave Cal State Northridge a sweep of the javelin titles in the California-Nevada track and field championships at Fresno City College’s Radcliffe Stadium on Sunday.

Dunn, who placed third in last year’s NCAA championships, had a winning throw of 165 feet, 5 inches, well ahead of second-place Sami Jo Small of Stanford (146-3).

Watrin did not throw as far as he had in qualifying Saturday, but his 195-10 effort was enough to edge Fresno State’s Dallas Richey (194-11) and Cal Poly Pomona’s Mike Torres (193-5).

The Northridge women tied San Diego State and Humboldt State for seventh with 37 points. UCLA won its second consecutive title with 154 points, followed by California (118) and Fresno State (90).

All but two of Northridge’s points came in the weight events.

Kristina Mataafa led a 3-4-5 Matador finish in the shotput with a mark of 45-8 and she placed fourth in the discus with a 167-1 effort that tied her personal best.

Teresa Stricklin and Beth Burton placed fourth and fifth in the shotput for Northridge with bests of 44-8 1/4 and 43-1 1/2.

Northridge finished ninth in the men’s meet with 37 points. Fresno State won with 137 points, followed by defending champion Cal (127) and Stanford (93).

The Matadors’ Chris Youngblood placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.47 seconds and teammate Tyrone Gayles finished fourth in the hammer with a toss of 187-6.
