SIMI VALLEY : City Donates 5 Acres for YMCA Center
Making good on an ongoing pledge to help improve services for youth and the elderly, the Simi Valley City Council on Monday donated nearly five acres for a new YMCA.
The city’s police headquarters are now located on the property at Cochran Street and Galena Avenue.
A new headquarters is scheduled to be built near City Hall, and the council decided to donate the property to a local social service agency.
The YMCA was the only group to respond to a request for proposals for the land.
The new $3.2-million facility will include a swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool and a wide range of classes and services for older residents as well as the young.
Currently, the YMCA does not have a gym or a pool. It offers child-care services, counseling classes and summer camp.
