OJAI : Followers Celebrate Krishnamurti’s Birth
More than 350 people from around the world are expected to converge on Ojai on Friday to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of religious philosopher and teacher J. Krishnamurti.
“We’re expecting visitors from Japan, England, India and South America,” said R. E. Mark Lee, executive director of the Krishnamurti Foundation of America in Ojai.
The centenary celebration begins Friday with registration and an evening of videos. It continues through the following Thursday with discussion groups, dialogues and yoga.
The program’s official inauguration takes place Saturday morning with a speech by Allan W. Anderson, a professor emeritus at San Diego State University, and a groundbreaking ceremony for a $1-million archives building.
Born in India in 1895, Krishnamurti spent his adult life teaching his views of humanity and consciousness. He first visited the Ojai Valley in 1922 and died there in 1986. The Krishnamurti Foundation was created in 1969 to study and preserve his teachings.
