An Indonesian woman visiting this country and looking at houses with her fiance was near death Thursday, as police sought two women who may have seen a car that hit her and left the scene.

Lini Santoso, 26, was in the middle of the street about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was knocked more than 100 feet by a car believed to be going at least 50 m.p.h.

The accident occurred at Oakland and South Los Robles avenues, said Pasadena police Sgt. George Wiley.

Santoso, who is hospitalized at Huntington Memorial Hospital, was with her husband-to-be when they decided to stop on the road so she could run across and get a closer look at a house.

She made it halfway across the street before she was struck by a car. It was described as having faded red paint, possibly a Japanese-made subcompact, and is thought to have substantial front-end damage.

“We believe the accident was witnessed by two women--possibly in their 20s, possibly Asian--who knocked on a resident’s door and used the phone to call 911,” Wiley said.

Anyone with more information about the accident is urged to call police at (818) 405-4241.
