COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Kotsay’s Slam Leads Titans Past San Diego

Mark Kotsay hit a grand slam, capping a five-run fifth inning for Cal State Fullerton in its 5-1 victory over San Diego in nonconference baseball Tuesday at Titan Field.

It was Kotsay’s second grand slam and 17th home run of the season. D.C. Olsen hit his 11th home run.

The Titans (46-9), who have won seven in a row and are ranked No. 1 in Baseball America’s national rankings, closed the regular season with an .836 winning percentage, their best during the regular season. San Diego is 24-27.

In another nonconference game:

Long Beach State 4, Cal State Northridge 3--Senior Ron Steves got his first victory of the season and Gabe Gonzalez recorded his 15th save for the 49ers (32-19-1).

In Big West Conference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 2-3, Long Beach State 1-1--The third-ranked Titans (42-15, 20-8) scored all their runs in each game in the seventh inning to sweep the 49ers (30-31, 13-17).

Trailing 1-0, Shannon Dolan’s two-out, two-run single gave the Titans the victory. In the second game, Beth Queypo’s single drove in Traci Fisher and Dolan. Jenn Mortensen (19-6) won both games, pitching a complete game in the opener and the final two innings of the nightcap.
