VENTURA : Pizza Delivery Driver Attacked, Robbed

Share

A pizza delivery driver was attacked Wednesday as he tried to deliver three pizzas to a bogus address.

Joseph Fry, 22, of Ventura, was struck from behind with an unknown object about 7:40 p.m. on the 6600 block of Webster Street. Police are searching for three men who witnesses said attacked Fry and then fled with the pizzas and two six-packs of Pepsi.

Someone ordered the food by phone from the Pizza Hut on Victoria Avenue. Fry, who has been delivering for more than a year, thought the street number didn’t sound right so he called back to confirm the order.

Once Fry arrived at Webster Street, he knocked on several doors, looking for the correct address. The attackers struck, hitting Fry in the head with a weapon he didn’t see.

“It sounded to me like a bag full of bottles,” Fry said. “It made that rattling sound.”

Fry declined medical attention at the scene. Another Pizza Hut worker, however, took him to the Urgent Care Center of Ventura on Ralston Street. Fry received several stitches to his right ear.

Fry said that his attackers won’t make him quit his delivery job. “They don’t scare me that bad,” he said. “I’ve delivered, what, 1,400 other pizzas, so it’s no big deal.”
