AGOURA HILLS : Parents Discuss Ways to Spot Drug Use

Share

Parents who suspect their kids are using drugs may find the answer tonight at a meeting designed to help them spot the danger signs.

The meeting, organized by Agoura High School and Lindero Canyon Middle School, will be held at 7 p.m. in the G Building at the high school.

“These activities really begin in late elementary school and middle school, and we just want as many parents as possible to share information,” said Ron Kaiser, principal of Lindero Canyon.

Along with spotting danger signs, parents will be told where to get help if they need it, officials said.

A survey taken last year of upper grade children in the Las Virgenes Unified School District showed that alcohol and marijuana use has risen sharply since a poll was taken about two years ago. School officials said many parents are apathetic about the problem and they urge more parents to get involved.

Kaiser said the meeting is also designed to help families and educators work more closely together to solve problems affecting the area’s youth.

On hand will be school counselors, officials said, along with deputies from the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.
