Fernando Valenzuela survived final roster cuts to 25 players per team on Monday and will remain in the San Diego Padres’ rotation. He is 0-2 with a 6.14 ERA, third-lowest in the Padres’ rotation. He has eight strikeouts and four walks in 14 2/3 innings, and has yielded 10 hits, including three home runs.

“He’s had three starts, and two of them I think he did a nice job in,” General Manager Randy Smith said. “He doesn’t have the same stuff he once did, but he’s a real professional and knows how to pitch. I think he’s been a good influence on the club.”
