COSTA MESA : Volunteer Efforts Planned for Weekend

Share

A number of events across the city this weekend offer residents an opportunity to help their neighbors while enjoying themselves.

Residents of Freedom Homes, a neighborhood on the west side, are pitching in Saturday to spruce up three houses nearby that are in need of a make-over.

Organizer Mary Fewel said the group is using proceeds from last year’s neighborhood tour of homes to purchase paint, sprinklers, fencing and landscaping materials. They also have collected donations from corporate sponsors.

Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at Federal Avenue and 19th Street in Costa Mesa.

At St. Joachim’s Catholic Church on Orange Avenue, the annual spring carnival that begins today will continue through Sunday. The goal of the three-day event is to raise money for scholarships for students at the parish school.

At South Coast Plaza today through Sunday, more than 30 local restaurants will be participating in A Taste of Costa Mesa.

Sponsored by the South Coast Rotary Club, the event in a parking lot of the shopping center is expected to raise money for several charities.

And the Costa Mesa Senior Center will sponsor a rummage sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., to raise money for the center, at 695 W. 19th St.
