HOLLYWOOD PARK : Spectator Injured by Runaway Horse
In a freak occurrence, spectator Janet DeRobertis, 49, apparently escaped serious injury when she was kicked by a horse during the fourth race Thursday at Hollywood Park.
Simple Logic, a 3-year-old maiden, unseated jockey Martin Pedroza at the start of the 1 1/16-mile race, then ran loose around the track. At the top of the stretch, the horse jumped the outside fence and apparently kicked DeRobertis.
On vacation with her husband from Lake Zurich, Ill., DeRobertis was taken to Centinela Hospital Medical Center for X-rays and treatment of a large bruise near her right shoulder blade.
Pedroza was uninjured and Simple Logic suffered minor scrapes, according to veterinarian B. William Bell.
