2nd Candidate Enters Race for Supervisor Seat
A 37-year-old civil service employee has become the second candidate to enter the race for the Ventura County supervisor’s seat now held by John Flynn.
Enrique Petris, a program analyst at the U.S. naval base in Port Hueneme, said Flynn has been in office for more than 19 years and it is time for a change.
“It’s time for him to retire,” Petris said. “He’s been there too many years; his style has become stale. We need someone to be more aggressive and more active.”
Petris has never held public office. He ran unsuccessfully for the state Assembly in 1984 and for the Oxnard City Council in 1985 and 1986.
Although he has not formally announced a bid for reelection, Flynn has said he intends to run next March. His 5th Supervisorial District includes most of Oxnard and El Rio.
Petris is the second candidate to enter the race for Flynn’s seat. Arlene Fraser of Oxnard, who ran unsuccessfully against Flynn in 1992, recently announced that she plans another campaign for the seat.
