A chase by Fountain Valley police officers ended in Long Beach on Wednesday when officers rammed the speeding car to prevent it from traveling the wrong way on Spring Street.

Police arrested Gregorio Nunez, 29, of Anaheim on suspicion of evading a police officer and possession of a concealed handgun. Police said the gun was not loaded.

The chase began when Fountain Valley police spotted Nunez stopped southbound in the northbound lanes of Magnolia Street at the San Diego Freeway overpass. Nunez fled north on the freeway, weaving through traffic at more than 90 m.p.h., police said.

Nunez exited at Lakewood Boulevard in Long Beach and drove to Spring Street, where he made a U-turn and tried to head back south against traffic, according to police. At that point, a police car involved in the chase rammed Nunez’s car.

Nunez was treated for minor scrapes.
