2 Killed, Child Hurt in Head-On Collision
Two people were killed when their cars collided head-on Thursday evening, authorities said.
A 17-year-old Quartz Hill boy was headed east on Avenue O when he crossed over into oncoming lanes and hit a car driven by a 40-year-old Lancaster woman traveling westbound with her 10-year-old daughter, said Officer Karen Faciane of the California Highway Patrol.
Both drivers, who remained unidentified pending notification of their relatives, died at the scene of the 5:53 p.m. accident, Faciane said.
It was unclear why the boy drove into oncoming traffic, Faciane said. All the victims were wearing seat belts, she added.
The woman’s daughter was listed in serious condition with head and neck injuries at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, Faciane said.
Avenue O was closed for an hour as officers investigated the scene, Faciane said.
CHP officers were seeking witnesses.
