VAN NUYS : Providers of Services to Seniors Honored

A Van Nuys social service agency and an employee of a Van Nuys senior center have received the 1995 “Governor’s Older Worker Recognition Award” for providing outstanding services to senior citizens.

Jean Strelzin, a long-term care consultant at the Organization for the Needs of the Elderly (ONE) was honored with 10 other recipients, including ABC news journalist Diane Sawyer, at a recent awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

Strelzin was a volunteer at ONE until she enrolled in a nursing home ombudsman training program offered by the city of Los Angeles.

While in training, Strelzin helped develop the position of long-term care evaluator and counselor at ONE. She assisted in the development of evaluation forms for nursing homes and helped organize evaluation files of the facilities.

Lutheran Social Services also received an award, which is sponsored by the California Task Force for Employment of Older Workers, the State Employment Development Department, the California Department of Aging, the Commission on Aging and the State Job Training Coordinating Council.
