LA HABRA : Carnival Canceled in Deference to Band

Rather than compete with a festival being sponsored by La Habra High School’s band later this month, a carnival promoter has canceled an event scheduled for the same time.

“I have to, in good conscience, bow out,” Jim Bast, director of guest relations for the Ray Commack Show, told La Habra High School band fans and the City Council.

Tony Fiori, the show’s director of marketing, said he didn’t know the band was planning a festival on the same dates as his company, which had contracted with the Super Kmart at Imperial Highway and Idaho Street to put on the carnival.

“We certainly don’t want to take any money away from the band,” Fiori said.

Band director Chris Harris, who had urged the council to prohibit the Super Kmart carnival, said he was pleased with Fiori’s and Bast’s announcement last week.
