COUNTYWIDE : Cities Vie for Funds to Improve Bike Lanes
An estimated $740,000 in state funding is available for cities that want to install bike lanes, make sidewalk improvements or comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act, Orange County Transportation Authority officials said.
About $1 million is also available under OCTA’s regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities program, but the competition for those funds is more stiff: To qualify, cities must have programs that appear on the Commuter Bikeways Strategic Plan.
Representatives from a dozen cities across the county attended a workshop last week to learn more about the available funds and how to apply for them before the June 23 deadline.
Valerie Decker, an assistant transportation analyst with OCTA, said cities may be awarded as much as $100,000 under the local program, with the amount of the grant generally based on population.
