Three people were wounded by gunfire at an Anaheim party early Saturday and police say they detained several armed people trying to leave the area.

Joey Lucero, 19, of Anaheim, Victor Islas, 25, of Anaheim, and Nancy Mendoza, 19, of Garden Grove were all shot about 1:10 a.m. in the 100 block of South Stinson Street, Sgt. Steve Rodig said.

A neighbor said gunfire erupted at a party in front of a nearby apartment as some guests were leaving.

Police said Lucero was found in the street with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to UCI Medical Center, where he was in critical condition Saturday night.

Islas and Mendoza were taken to UCI Medical Center, also with gunshot wounds. A nursing supervisor said Mendoza was treated and released and Islas was in surgical intensive care in serious condition.

Rodig said the motive for the shooting is unclear. Patrol officers arriving at the scene detained several individuals who were trying to leave, and confiscated their weapons. They are being detained pending further investigation, Rodig said.
