Senior Summer Trips Available

Thousand Oaks residents over 50 can take to the road this summer with organized trips through the Goebel Senior Center that range from a one-day stop at the Getty Museum in Malibu to a 10-day tour of eastern Canada.

The trips, offered at a discount rate, are organized by the center.

“Very often we get the senior citizen rate plus the group discount,” center coordinator Marie Lichtenstein said. “It usually works out that it’s much less expensive. And it’s a nice way to go, to let someone else drive and just enjoy the day.”

Planned this summer is a June 29 outing to the Getty, a July 19 trip to a Victorian mansion in the Santa Ynez Valley, a Pacific Northwest tour beginning Aug. 19, New England and eastern Canada tour beginning Sept. 22, and a nine-day tour of Costa Rica beginning Nov. 11.

There is no deadline for registration, but the trips do fill up, Lichtenstein said. “We just keep selling until we fill our quota or our bus,” she said.

The center also offers dances and other activities.

Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays. The center is open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
