WESTMINSTER : Free Concerts Slated for Summer Series

The city will host 11 free concerts this summer as part of its annual series, officials said.

The series will open June 29 with the Huntington Beach Concert Band, which will perform show tunes, pop hits and patriotic ballads.

Other shows are:

* Wild Pony, which will play country-Western songs July 6.

* The Swingsations, jazz and pop songs, July 13.

* Nicholson Pipes & Drums, a Scottish-style bagpipe band with dancers, July 20.

* The Shoreline Concert Band, a variety of classical, patriotic and pop songs, July 27.

* The band Popular Demand, rock ‘n’ roll hits from the 1950s and ‘60s, Aug. 3.

* The Dixie Rhythm Ramblers, a Dixieland jazz band, Aug. 10.

* The Westminster Chorale and the Men’s Harmony Showcase, choral music and barbershop harmonies, Aug. 17.

* The Golden West College Symphonic Band, pop, classical and show tunes, Aug. 24.

* The Follies, a song and dance review, Aug. 31.

* The Blue Pacific Swing Band, big-band songs from the swing period, Sept. 7.

All shows will be Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Center, 8200 Westminster Blvd.
