BUENA PARK : Freeway Is Closed After Big Rig Crash

Share

A big rig jackknifed on the Santa Ana Freeway at Beach Boulevard on Tuesday in heavy afternoon traffic, closing all southbound lanes for hours and knocking part of the center divider into the fast lane on the northbound side, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m., forcing CHP officers and Buena Park police to divert traffic off the freeway at Beach Boulevard. Cars were allowed to re-enter the freeway at Magnolia Street, CHP Officer Jeff Keul said.

One southbound lane reopened at 4:30 p.m. All but the fast lanes in both directions were reopened by 8 p.m. as California Department of Transportation workers repaired the center divider.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, which was only carrying a few boxes, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange with moderate injuries, Keul said.

Keul said it wasn’t known why the driver jackknifed.
