White Zombie’s “Astro Creep: 2000,” which has really caught on in hard-rock circles, continues to pummel the opposition, topping both The Times’ Southern California and the national hard-rock chart. It’s selling well enough to make a significant mark on the pop charts too, landing at No. 12 on the Southern California chart and No. 14 nationally. Michael Jackson, of course, was the big seller, with his “HIStory” debuting on both pop album charts at No. 1--as well as both R&B; album charts. But after that initial first two-week splash, his “Scream” single, which many figured would be No. 1 for many weeks, slipped to No. 4 on both charts.
