Kidnap Story Was Fabricated, Boy Confesses

Police say a Port Hueneme boy fabricated a story that he was kidnaped while walking home from Bard elementary school on May 31.

The 10-year-old boy came into the police station with his parents on Wednesday to tell police he had made up the story. Police say he told the story to get attention.

The boy does not face charges of filing a false report due to his age, police said.

Police had offered up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the kidnaper.

The boy told police that a man driving a black two-door sedan with orange flames painted on the sides grabbed him and threw him in the front seat of his car in the 600 block of East Pleasant Valley Road.

He told police that he had escaped when the man stopped at a stop sign.

Police said the boy was counseled by investigators and released to his parents.
