The Buffalo Stampede, defending Roller Hockey International champion, has filed for bankruptcy and may fold at mid-season.
RHI chairman Larry King has been negotiating with new investors in the hopes of saving the team, but the league has indicated it will not take the team over if talks fail.
The team Buffalo defeated to win the 1994 RHI title, the Portland Rage, folded after the playoffs last season.
