Phone Line Offers List of Sex Offenders
California residents who suspect that a person is a registered child molester can check out their concerns by calling a new 900 number operated by the state Bureau of Criminal Information and Analysis.
Callers will be charged $10 and must provide the person’s exact name and driver’s license or social security number. Operators also can search their file of registered sex offenders in California with a name and physical description, if the social security or driver’s license number is unknown.
Callers will be asked to identify themselves and the reason they are calling, and that information will be recorded. It is illegal to use any information obtained through the hot line to discriminate against or harass a sex offender.
To reach the child molester identification line, call (900) 463-0400.
