BREA : Engineering Strategy to Bring Savings to City
With the retirement this year of the city’s longtime engineer, Sam Peterson, the City Council will hire three staff members to handle its engineering services at a savings of about $104,000 a year, officials said.
Sam Peterson and Associates, a 10-member firm that has handled the city’s engineering since the late 1940s, will continue to provide services as needed, Assistant City Manager Tim O’Donnell said.
O’Donnell said at Wednesday’s council meeting that Brea has required fewer engineering services in past years, so the city can save money by hiring a small staff for everyday tasks, then contracting out larger projects.
“The volume isn’t what it used to be when Brea was building and exploding,” O’Donnell said.
Peterson will work part time to complete projects already underway, O’Donnell said.
