Candidate Wilson

* Bruce Herschensohn, political commentator, wrote a wonderfully insightful column regarding Pete Wilson and his betrayal to the people of California when he decided to run for President and not fulfill his duties as governor (Column Right, June 27).

This article should be read by everyone, Democrat or Republican, so they can rethink their ideas about how to vote in 1996. We have been so betrayed by every politician who ever ran for and succeeded in becoming elected to the office he chose to run for. I am totally disillusioned with every one of them, and don’t even know what I am going to do in 1996. There is absolutely no one that I trust.

* For those of you who are not aware of the huge benefits (business and financial) when the President is from your state:

Probably nothing would bring the California economy back to its 1980s place as quickly as a California President.

The rhetoric of political ideology won’t mean squat to our money problems. The Midwest and East are not concerned with our finances. The Federal Reserve Board members are most sympathetic to New York and Eastern interests--and appear not to be concerned about California’s recovery. And now base closures. An economic vote for Wilson.

* Let’s all wake up to the fact that Wilson is actually running for the vice presidential nomination on the Republican ticket. The Christian right will need a Californian to dilute its program. Sen. Bob Dole will have to have a ultraistic Christian to bring in the righteous right.

What we really need is a third party, or at least a good third choice.
