Temperatures reached the 90-degree mark in Santa Ana on Monday as seasonable summer weather began to give way to a cooling trend that is expected today.

The mercury hit 71 in Dana Point, 89 in Anaheim, 87 in San Juan Capistrano, 88 in El Toro and 71 in Newport Beach, said James McCutcheon, a forecast meteorologist for WeatherData, which provides weather information for The Times.

Today, early morning commuters along the Orange County coast may see some fog, but skies are expected to clear by noon with sunny skies for the rest of the day, McCutcheon said. “It’s pretty much status quo as far as temperatures go,” he said. “It’s a very typical day in Southern California.”

Highs are expected to be in the upper 60s along the coast and the mid-80s inland today, while lows will dip into the upper 50s in coastal areas and mid-60s inland, McCutcheon said. Overall, it will be a few degrees cooler than Monday.
