The Camarillo City Council has given permission to the Pardee Construction Co. to build 361 residences in two planned communities in the central and eastern areas of the city.

The council unanimously approved both projects at its meeting Wednesday.

One Pardee project involves the construction of 265 single-family residences on 88 acres north of Las Posas Road and Lantana Street.

It will feature one- and two-story houses ranging in size from 1,759 to 3,082 square feet.

The project will provide a seven-acre park, and each unit will feature room for recreational vehicles, according to Matthew Boden, city director of planning and community development.

The site is now used for strawberry farming, and some nearby residents expressed concern at the meeting about converting the land into a residential development. Others asked the council to assure them that the park would be landscaped immediately and not left undeveloped.

The second Pardee project calls for the construction of 96 single-family residences on a 20.8-acre parcel near Mission Oaks Boulevard and Adolfo Road in the city’s Mission Oaks area.

The one- and two-story housing units, ranging from 1,609 to 2,729 square feet, will feature three-car garages and recreational vehicle parking.
