LEIMERT PARK : Forum to Discuss Jobs for Youths

Share

AGENDA for Action Among Youth (AAAY) is hosting an informational forum Monday on the lack of quality jobs for youth in central Los Angeles.

Organizers expect more than 100 African American and Latino youths from south Los Angeles to attend and express their opinions through rap music, poetry, drama and other art forms.

Among topics to be discussed are the concentration of low-wage jobs in south Los Angeles, the importance of creating jobs with livable wages, and the need for young people to have constructive alternatives to crime, violence and drug abuse.

Made up of high school- and college-age people, AAAY is a spinoff of AGENDA, a grass-roots community watchdog group based in central Los Angeles.

The youth group held a forum last month on affirmative action and conducted surveys to identify top concerns among young people. It has worked with youth and south Los Angeles residents to implement the Police Department’s community-based policing program.

The forum will be from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Regency West Ballroom, 3339 43rd St.
