Snead Edges Ahead of Colbert Before Storm Disrupts Seniors

After a four-hour delay because of an electrical storm, it didn’t take J.C. Snead long to break a tie with Jim Colbert and take the lead Saturday in the suspended third round of the Senior Players Championship.

Snead had to wait only until his ball rolled 12 feet into the cup for an eagle on the par-five 13th hole of the TPC of Michigan, giving him a one-stroke lead over Colbert, who birdied the hole.

“The game’s still on the table and I like to have a chance at the end,” Colbert said. “I’d rather have the lead but, as long as I’m still in the game, I’m all right.”

Play resumed for only 20 minutes when it was again suspended because of bad weather, this time for the day.

The 24 golfers who did not finish the third round are scheduled to resume play early this morning. After completion of the round, the field will be re-paired for the start of the final round.

Snead is 13 under and Colbert 12 under with five holes left in their third rounds. Defending champion Dave Stockton is at 11 under after he also birdied 13. Three players were at 10 under including course architect Jack Nicklaus.
