A man arrested for driving on an active runway at Van Nuys Airport may face federal charges for his alleged joyride, authorities said Monday.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, which began when airport police spotted the driver, a 30-year-old man whose name was not released, driving in an unauthorized area in his Ford Thunderbird about 8 p.m. Sunday, airport spokeswoman Stacy Geere said.

Airport officers stopped the man and led him off the runway, and Los Angeles police took him to Van Nuys Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of drunk driving, Geere said. A police test found that the man’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit of .08%, authorities said.
