San Gabriel Valley : An Unhelpful Councilman?
Covina Councilwoman Linda Sarver accused Councilman Chris Christensen--a California Highway Patrol officer--of refusing to help a city police officer at a double murder scene.
Sarver said a uniformed Christensen declined to help a Covina officer at a July 6 shooting at Covina Bowl, where two men died and a third was seriously injured. Authorities say the shooting was gang related.
“It’s beyond my comprehension how any police officer could turn his back on a request for assistance from a fellow police officer in a time of need,” said Sarver, speaking at a council meeting Tuesday. She said she confirmed the story with officers who were having problems controlling the crime scene.
Christensen denied the allegation. At the council meeting, he said he offered to help and left only when other assistance was on its way.
“It’s untrue,” Christensen said Wednesday. “I’ll let my 27-year unblemished record as a CHP officer stand for itself.”
