Deep within San Gabriel Canyon, five miles from the nearest road, stands the Narrows Bridge. It arches 250 feet above Southern California’s deepest gorge, the crown jewel in Los Angeles County’s plan for a scenic highway up the east fork of San Gabriel Canyon. In 1938, a flood obliterated the road and the project was abandoned. A picnic spot is nearby at Narrows Camp.
