Couple Won’t Face Charges for Leaving Daughter at Gas Station

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office declined Thursday to file charges against a Gypsy couple who left their 8-year-old daughter at a self-serve gasoline station in Artesia, a spokeswoman said.
“The case was reviewed by a deputy district attorney in our Bellflower office and it was found there was no intent to leave the child behind,” said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the office.
A sheriff’s spokesman said the two identified themselves as Gypsies and said they were married under Gypsy law.
The child left at the Chevron station on Pioneer Boulevard Wednesday morning is one of the couple’s five children, the spokesman said.
Deputies said the couple had $50 when they were arrested and were looking for work.
