BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Big Series Awaits in Denver

The Dodgers, who moved to within three games of Colorado after beating the Cincinnati Reds Sunday, open a three-game series against the Rockies Tuesday night at Denver. The Dodgers have won five of seven games from the Rockies this season, including all three at Denver.

“It’s not do or die, but we need to step up and make a statement,” third baseman Tim Wallach said. “I think we’ve proved what kind of club we can be, but we need to be that kind of club consistently.”

Catcher Mike Piazza stole his first base of the season after singling in the seventh. It was the fifth stolen base of his major league career. The Dodgers tied a season high with four stolen bases.
