“The men were applying a sealant inside a tank that is 20 feet long and 6 feet in diameter when there was a flash fire,” said spokesman, Brian Humphrey.
The accident at CSM Metal Fabricating and Engineering, 1800 S. San Pedro St., occurred at 3:47 p.m., Humphrey said.
A 26-year-old man suffered second- and third-degree burns over 90% of his body, Humphrey said, and a 35-year-old suffered second- and third-degree burns over 40 to 60% of his body.
The men were listed in extremely critical condition, Humphrey said, at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
