OXNARD : Firefighters Offer Smoke Detectors
- Share via
As part of the “Save Our Seniors” program, the Oxnard Firefighters Assn. has landed a $14,000 grant to give out free smoke detectors to seniors.
The association bought about 3,200 detectors with money from the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging to help “ensure that all senior citizens in Ventura County are protected by properly installed and functioning smoke detectors.”
Dennis Leaf, an engineer with the Oxnard Fire Department, said about 600 people have taken the association up on the offer so far.
The devices are available for pickup at all city fire stations between 5 and 8 p.m. seven days a week. Firefighters can help install the detectors. Information: 659-6332.
