Two 18-year-old students have been ordered to stand trial on murder charges for allegedly beating and stomping to death a classmate during a nutrition break at Narbonne High School in Harbor City.

Rene Nieves and Christian Bremmer are scheduled for arraignment Aug. 23 in Long Beach Superior Court in connection with the May 18 assault on Shazeb Andleeb, 17.

After their preliminary hearing Tuesday, Los Angeles Municipal Judge Andrew C. Kauffman set bail for each at $1 million.

Nieves and Bremmer were arrested with five other men, all minors, shortly after the attack, which was sparked over invitations to a party.

The seven young men allegedly jumped Andleeb during a school nutrition break and began punching and kicking him. Authorities said the beating ruptured the boy’s spleen. He was pronounced dead of blunt-force trauma a short time later at a hospital.
