Glendale, Other Areas Hit by Power Outage
The electricity went out citywide in Glendale and neighboring areas shortly before noon Saturday, trapping people in elevators and leaving about 80,000 customers temporarily without power, a Glendale Public Service official said.
“We lost the entire city,” said Richard Hernandez, a supervisor with Glendale Public Service, which provides water and power to the city. Portions of La Crescenta and Montrose also lost power, he said.
The electricity was restored about 12:45 p.m. and there were no reports of injuries, Glendale officials said. The 11:45 a.m. outage caused traffic lights to malfunction, said Glendale police Sgt. Jerry Jones.
The outage was caused by a problem at Los Angeles’ Department of Water and Power.
