BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Easley Returns After Headache

Share

Shortstop Damion Easley returned to the lineup after missing Sunday’s game because of the worst migraine headache of his life.

He has suffered from migraines since childhood, but never had to miss a game because of one. He said he gets one every couple of months.

They usually trouble him for three-to-five days, but Easley reported no lingering effects. He had a run-scoring triple in his first at-bat.

“I guess it was three-to-five days all in one,” Easley said. “My eyes were hurting and I got nauseous. I’ve tried medication and shots. From what I’ve tried nothing’s worked.”

Caffeine, cheese, pork and MSG can bring on Easley’s migraines. “Very, very, very rarely is that stuff in my diet,” Easley said.

He said he thinks the hot, stuffy air inside the Metrodome on Sunday caused his problems. Heat and humidity have brought on migraines in the past.

“Mostly I try to control them as best as I can,” said Easley, who is replacing Gary DiSarcina, who is out for the season after undergoing thumb surgery last week. “Definitely yesterday was the worst I’ve ever had.”

Manager Marcel Lachemann did not start Chico Lind at second base, replacing him with Rex Hudler. Lind is hitless in his last 12 at-bats and two for 16 since he was called up from triple-A Vancouver on Aug. 8. . . . Shawn Boskie, on the disabled list because of tendinitis in his right elbow since July 16, makes the second of three rehab starts tonight at Class A Lake Elsinore. . . . Mike Bielecki, on the DL because of tendinitis in his right shoulder, will wait until the Angels return to Anaheim before pitching a simulated game in the bullpen.
