CONFLICT OF INTEREST? The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office and Pasadena police are conducting criminal investigations into allegations of conflict of interest at a city of Pasadena-Los Angeles County economic development agency, county and city officials said.
The investigations into the Altadena Pasadena Enterprise Zone Authority follow a city of Pasadena audit stating that relatives of board member Kimberly A. Shaw were paid more than $100,000 for services in the last few years, city sources said.
During some of that time, Shaw, a Los Angeles County employee who represents the county on the zone’s board, was also the zone’s interim manager.
The money was paid to firms owned by or tied to Shaw’s husband and brother, authority records show. Pasadena initiated the audit after zone authority board members raised questions about the agency contractors.
In an interview last month, Shaw, who was put on paid leave by the county July 14, denied any wrongdoing.
