LOS ALAMITOS : Impressive Field Set for Go Man Go ‘Cap
Three of the country’s top older horses, Avison, Down with Debt and Refrigerator, are among the field in tonight’s $75,000 Go Man Go Handicap at Los Alamitos. First post is 7:15 p.m.
The Connie Hall-trained Avison has already marked himself as a contender for champion aged gelding honors after winning the Kaweah Bar Handicap and Grade 1 Vessels Maturity. Ridden by Joe Badilla Jr., Avison will be making his first start since winning the Vessels Maturity on June 30.
But Avison will probably be challenged by defending world champion Down With Debt, even though Avison has beaten her once this year. Down With Debt, who is trained by Charlie Bloomquist, finished third in the Vessels Maturity but returned to impressively win the Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship on July 21.
The horse drawing the most attention is Refrigerator, who is making his first start since winning the 1994 Champion of Champions last December. Refrigerator, a two-time world champion and the leading quarter horse money earner, has not won the Go Man Go Handicap in two attempts.
