A Leimert Park man was shot to death by Los Angeles police Thursday after he reportedly cut one of two uniformed officers trying to serve him with a temporary restraining order, authorities said.

Neither the dead man, who police said was in his mid-40s, nor the wounded officer were immediately identified. However, neighbors described the deceased man as a 16-year-old.

Officer Don Cox said the incident occurred about 5 p.m. when the officers arrived at a home in the 1400 block of West 45th Street to serve the restraining order.

The man ran into a house and was followed by the officers, Cox said. After cutting one of the officers in the forehead with a knife, the man was shot dead at the scene by the wounded officer’s partner, Cox said.

The wounded officer was taken to Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood, where he was listed in good condition, police said.
