OUTLOOK
The Spartans are puzzling. They have a big and talented offensive line but who’s going to run behind it? Bell gets the first try and might work out. But it’s rare that Villa Park, with its grind-it-out offense, starts the season without a known quantity in the backfield. The secondary is strong, with four returning starters. Stremick intercepted eight passes. Mahoney was a first-team all-league pick and DeClark was a second-team selection.
